There are four different rating classes that people are put under when they are put onto a term life insurance policy. The rating classes are preferred plus, preferred, standard plus as well as standard. These classes do bare some evident differences between them.

Preferred plus holds an exceptionally high standard. With this particular rating for your policy, your agent is basically saying that no one in your family has ever suffered from any diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular disease. As you can imagine, this particular rating is not given in excess.

The preferred rating class simply states that no one in your family has died from these diseases and that your health is up to par as well. With the standard plus policy, your family history has to state that no more than one of your parents had some form of cardiovascular disease or cancer and they did not die from their ailment.

Standard policies are a lot more flexible and state that no more than one of your parents that are below the age of 60 has died from a problem. Standard policy ratings are also more relaxed on your medical qualifications in order to obtain the policy as well.
